Seven reported killed in Gaza as Israel strikes Islamic University; West Bank under lockdown

On Sunday, an Israeli air strike killed three security guards in one of two attacks on the Islamic University in Gaza City, and seven people were reported killed across Gaza. Israel also announced it would restrict Palestinian workers' movement and close West Bank crossings on election day, Tuesday. This follows a full lockdown and military operations across the West Bank that began on Saturday, after an attack on a checkpoint near Hebron killed two Israeli soldiers.

  • Hebron municipality says 35 hectares were destroyed or marked for destruction and about 1,500 people evicted from the Ein Deir Baha district. The city of 250,000 was sealed off, and Netanyahu vowed 'to destroy this place'.
  • The UN said it was extremely alarmed by the intensifying West Bank violence. The World Food Programme has halved its aid to displaced Palestinians there.
  • Nearly 75,000 people have been killed in Gaza, and nearly a million displaced Palestinians face dire sanitary conditions and water shortages.
