Privacy
Faultline has no accounts, no ads and no tracking or analytics cookies.
What we store
- Dashboard access: after a week of free use, the live dashboard asks for an email address. We store the address, when you gave it and when you confirmed it, and use it only to keep the dashboard open for you and to send the one confirmation email. The daily brief is a separate, optional choice. Every confirmation email has a link to remove your address.
- Discussions: if you post, we store your display name, your posts, any reports you make and the moderation decisions about your posts. Your email is never shown to other members. Deleted posts are blanked at once; removed and refused posts are kept for 90 days for appeals. Posts are checked by Claude (Anthropic) before they appear, so their text and your display name are sent to Anthropic for that check.
- Email digest: if you subscribe, your email address, the situations you chose and when you confirmed. It is used only to send the daily brief, never shared or sold, and deleted when you unsubscribe (every email has a one-click link).
- Browser alerts: if you turn them on, the push address your browser gives us and the situations you follow. It is deleted when you turn alerts off or your browser expires it.
- Your browser: your filters, followed situations and Live TV choice stay in your own browser's local storage.
- Server logs: standard web server logs (IP address, page, time) kept for security and troubleshooting.
Third parties
- Live TV plays streams from YouTube (youtube-nocookie.com) only when you open the player; YouTube's own privacy policy applies to it.
- Fonts load from Google Fonts.
- Bright side photos load from Wikimedia Commons, and summaries from Wikipedia when you open a World Heritage site; the Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy applies to those requests.
- Briefs and summaries are written by Claude (Anthropic) from public news reports. Apart from discussion posts and questions typed into Ask Faultline, no visitor data is sent to Anthropic.
- Email is delivered through Google's mail service.
