Iran says it is ready to resume war as Trump rules out strikes 'today'

On Monday, Iran said it is preparing for a possible US and Israeli attack after the US midterms, while reports said hardliners are turning against President Pezeshkian over talks with Washington. Trump said there would be no strikes on Iran 'today', and Iran warned renewed attacks 'will achieve no different outcome'. UN Secretary-General António Guterres, speaking in Cairo, urged dialogue and diplomacy to end the war. Over the weekend the US ordered diplomats out of Saudi Arabia, citing Iranian plots against Americans, and reports said CENTCOM has drawn up strike plans.

• Trump said there would be no strikes on Iran 'today'. Earlier he suggested a possible attack as soon as Sunday, or a major deal.
• Tehran blames the US for the failed deal and warns that even limited strikes would draw a response 'several times greater'.
• Israeli media report Netanyahu and military chief Eyal Zamir are at odds over Iran. Netanyahu denies any confrontation and warns Iran could attack Israel to disrupt Tuesday's vote.
• US Central Command says more than 3,000 commercial vessels have transited the Strait of Hormuz with its support. Pakistan-Iran border trade has partly resumed after a week-long halt, though Tehran says its cargo is not getting through.
