Democrats win control of the US Senate as midterm results sweep in

Democrats regained the Senate in Tuesday's midterms, which gives them leverage over President Trump's legislative agenda and appointments, including judicial nominations. Seats flipped or held include North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio and Texas, and Democrats also won governorships in Texas, Ohio, California, Georgia and New Mexico. Republican Ashley Moody held the Florida special Senate seat.

• Roy Cooper won North Carolina's Senate seat, and Annie Andrews flipped South Carolina's. Sherrod Brown ousted Republican incumbent Jon Husted in Ohio, and James Talarico defeated Ken Paxton in Texas.
• Jon Ossoff was re-elected in Georgia and Chris Pappas won New Hampshire's open seat, both Democratic holds.
• Democrat Gina Hinojosa unseated Texas Governor Greg Abbott. Amy Acton beat Vivek Ramaswamy in Ohio, Xavier Becerra won in California, Deb Haaland in New Mexico and Keisha Lance Bottoms in Georgia.
• Democrats won three of four Florida House districts that Republicans redrew this year and narrowly lead in the fourth.
