Trade unions strike and march across France over cost of living

Demonstrations continued across France on Thursday as trade unions went on strike over the cost of living. Riot police fired tear gas and charged protesters in Lyon during the rallies. The action followed weeks of unrest, with more than 220 demonstrations expected and hundreds of thousands forecast to march.

The national strike was expected to include hospital workers, air traffic control, post office, teachers and rail staff.
Protests are over living costs and school conditions, and renew pressure on President Macron.
