US strikes on Qeshm Island and Hormuz continue as Qatar presses mediation

On Friday into Saturday, Trump said US forces carried out a new round of "minor" strikes on an Iranian air defence system on Qeshm Island, and Al Jazeera reports strikes continued on Saturday after more ships were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz. Qatar's prime minister says Washington is willing to seek a negotiated solution and urged both sides not to delay a deal. Qatar is also trying to persuade Tehran to allow UN inspections of its bombed nuclear sites. Iran's Revolutionary Guards say they are building underground sites so missile production can continue under bombardment.

• Iranian state media reported two explosions in the Suza area of Qeshm Island after the US strikes; Trump is reportedly still weighing new strikes.
• Qatar's inspection proposal would not require Iran to commit to removing its highly enriched uranium stockpile, and down-blending is among the options.
• Iran said on Thursday that five oil tankers and a tugboat caught fire in separate Hormuz incidents.
• Iraq's foreign minister says outside parties are using Iraqi soil to attack Gulf states, and Baghdad is investigating.
